11.22.12

I knew it would be a slippery slope once I started adding bits of color to my pieces. Here are my leaf ornaments! I squealed when I pulled them from the kiln. They turned out the way I expected, but also not. Which is the mystery of ceramics, I'm learning. They look deliciously shiny and the colors are so vivid. I still love the pure white and muted matteness of unglazed porcelain, but it's fun to mix it up a bit.

That's a Wrap

I was brainstorming necklace ideas the other day and decided that a metal-free design would suit my needs. A simple, non-fussy look that would highlight my porcelain pieces and add a pop of color. I know that white gets old and 99% of the time when people think "jewelry", they're thinking in color. These are a few of the newest creations I've come up with. I'm very happy with them--getting to dive into my embroidery thread stash and obsessively wrap things is very pleasing, I must say.

Greetings..

Little hanging plaques for Indie Davis later this month. My own clay version of magnetic poetry, I suppose. I found the letter stamps at a yard sale, part of a Wilton Cake decorating kit. They're larger than my rubber stamps and give a nice, crisp impression. This was one of those days where I just HAD to make something. I'm happy I did..

Hello... Summer

For weeks it seemed summer would never arrive. Odd cold weather and the chaos of those last days of school...but we made it. And I am happier than I have been in a long time. Morning mania has been replaced with pajamas, lazy breakfasts, trips to the fruit stand and heavenly dips in the pool. I am declaring this the best summer ever. And we're only a full week in.

We don't live near the ocean, but I am constantly thinking of sandy bits and ocean waves. Today I made these anemone pendants, with the help of a bit of lace trim. They haven't been fired, but I love how they turned out so far. Little creatures. Or fossils. Whatever your fancy.

Sending happy thoughts to all the dads for Father's Day tomorrow!
